When any of our husbands ask us to do something with a slightly firm tone in their voice, we respond with "Stop yelling at me..."
And when we were in Nantucket eating ice cream from the Juice Bar, I said every night, "this is the BEST ice cream ever", and Josh reminded me that I said that the night before. (Yes, we had it almost every night. And yes, it really is the best ice cream ever. And eating it in Nantucket doesn't hurt either.)
Ok, so maybe this wasn't the Best Weekend Ever (I should probably leave that to my wedding day, or the Saturday Finlay was born, or the Sunday Laird was born, or something monumental like that).
...But it really was a great weekend.
Josh cut out early Friday and we headed into Georgetown. Going into DC, especially Georgetown, has been a highlight since living in Annapolis. I'd say we go to Georgetown probably once a month or so, and I love it. We just walk around, eat dinner, window shop, and come home. Josh always has to hit up the Patagonia store. He shops and I talk with the security guy (who knows us by name & adores Finlay) while Josh walks around drooling. And ever since going to Nantucket, he's added another store to his Georgetown list: Vineyard Vines.
The store owner gave Finlay a hat. It's been a favorite toy of his since bringing it home.
* I love this picture of Laird. Whenever he's on his stomach, he always taps his right foot to the ground over and over again. I love "learning" my boys. Oh, how I love my Little Lairdy Love!
Saturday morning Josh was asked to help do inspections on the houses in our neighborhood. Basically, he walked around for 4 hours with a clip board and told people to "Fix up yo' house!". The thought of waking up and doing another morning alone with the boys (like the 5 days before Saturday) drove me to calling all the wives of "the inspectors" and having them & their kids over for brunch. It was just what I needed! And I think they had fun too!
After our brunch with friends, the boys went down for naps, and Finlay woke up rearing to go...begging for his "helmo" (Translation: bike helmet. Not to be confused with "Elmo" or "homo") :)
He's got a "balance bike". It's called a Strider bike, and it's amazing. Josh tells everyone "Look them up on YouTube!" (18 month old kids learn to ride them!) Finlay's been getting really good and it's been so fun to watch. This weekend we sent him down a small hill in our neighborhood and he had his feet up & I caught him at the bottom. He came back all sweaty. I think we were out there for what seemed like 2 hours. It didn't help that we stopped to play with friends at the park, and then saw a million other neighbors on the way back. We really do love our neighbors. We've made some precious friends!
Saturday night we went out for our 6 year anniversary. Hard to believe we got married 6 years ago!
6 years of marriage, 2 states, 3 apartments/homes, 2 kids, 2 jobs for Josh, 3 jobs for me, a Master's degree, and a few therapy sessions :) ....and I'd say it's been a pretty great 6 years!
We celebrated at Wild Orchid, one of our favorite places ever. It's a lovely little yellow house hidden in Eastport, a neighborhood in Annapolis' Historic district. The entire place has about 10 tables. They serve great lunches and for dinner they serve a 4 course meal, where you actually get to sit & talk & linger over good food & even better company. It was delightful. And to top it off, the owner recognized us and knew Josh's name this time. He spent the rest of the evening all jazzed that he's "a regular" :)
And no Best Weekend Ever would be complete without a tantilizing trip to Ikea, land of Fine Swedish Furnishings. We decided to build Finlay a kitchen. One that isn't a couple hundred dollars, pink, and made of particle board.
Before we went, we had to draw up a plan...
And then gather a few measurements...
And after WAY too much time walking the Maze of Ikea, we came home and made these:
The world's easiest & best homemade pizza crust. I got the recipe from my neighbor and we're in love. (See? I'm exaggerating again...) Josh made pepperoni pizza and I made a garlic & spinach pizza. The picture doesn't do it justice.
Am I allowed to end the Best Weekend Ever with a trip to Ikea & homemade pizza?
Sure, why not...
Because when it's all said and done, we had a weekend full of being together, exploring our town & neighborhood, sharing life with friends, celebrating milestones, exercising creativity as we built toys for our boys & cooked food for our bellies... we lived & loved.
And THAT makes it the Best Weekend Ever.
I was wonderng where you'd been. I confess, I am a blog stalker and was missing your posts. Glad to hear Finley likes his Strider bike, we're thinking of getting one for Titus' birthday. Although Steve thinks they are a bit goofy. :) And, Happy Anniversary!
