Garden

Finlay had his "Communication Group" this morning.  Today's theme was "Rain", so of course he wore his yellow rain boots (a.k.a. "bylos", which explains why he's in Communication Group. Ha!) and he was asked to bring his umbrella. (I was kinda wondering how the teachers were going to handle a bunch of 2 years olds and umbrellas, but apparently everything went fine) :)

When I picked up Finlay the teacher told me he refused to "dip" or "kiss" his cucumber. They all sit in a circle and have snack and since Finlay's highly skeptical of food, they do a "heirarchy" with him...first touch it, smell it, kiss it, lick it, and eat it. Apparently Finlay smelled the cucumber and then put his hand over his nose the rest of the time. When I picked him up, I peeked in the crack of the door and saw him sitting at the table, really serious, with his hood over his head and his hand covering both his nose & mouth! He's serious about NOT eating!

Although, they also told me he used a ton of language and there was a new boy, Ethan, in class and Finlay held his hand during class.  So proud of my friendly, inclusive, knows-how-to-be-a-good-friend, little boy! :)

While Finlay was at class I went to Homestead Gardens with Laird and picked up some flowers & plants for some pots & our Earth Box.  I was actually able to take time and look slowly at all the plants since Finlay wasn't with me. :)

When the boys went down for a nap (together, at the same time, a miracle!) I planted.  Here they are!

Strawberries for one EarthBox... Tomatoes & Peppers for another!

Here's the EarthBox. Sooo...it's supposed to be the "perfect watering system". There's a reservoir underneath and you can't over/under water it. I'm supposed to get a lot more crop than if I planted the old fashioned way. Time will tell!

Impatiens (for the longest time I thought these were called ImpatienTs...who knew!)
Anyway, these remind me of my childhood, the flower bed around the window well on the back deck. Mom always had that FULL of these! And they were always beautiful! So, of course, I have to have them on my back deck too.

Bought these white pots from Ikea for $1. I put these little plants inside and they sit on my kitchen window sill.

Finlay, my helper. Watering the Hydrangea plants.  Notice his little pinwheel to the left :)

Basil...grow, basil, grow!

Bought this parsley a few days ago, and obviously forgot to water it. I watered it tonight and it perked right up!

I have a few more herbs I want to plant. And I need to finish my second EarthBox. Hopefully this is a fun summer of gardening!

Happy Earth Day!
